Protecting Your Eyes With the Right Safety Glasses


As most of are aware, any time that you are going to be involved in an activity in which there is a chance of injury to your eyes, you should be wearing some form of eye protection in the form of safety glasses, a face shield or goggles. As the saying goes, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" and when it comes to your eyes, you are likely to only get once chance to protect them. Should you fail to do so, your chances of permanent eye damage are much better than those of getting lucky.
The big question is whether you really want to risk losing your sight in one or both eyes just because you don't like wearing safety glasses or as so many people claim, they hinder your ability to see. The reality is that there is never a good reason not to take the proper steps to protect your eyes and if you don't, you may end up regretting that decision for the rest of your life. You may also find that more employers than ever are requiring the use of eye protection while on the job.
Over the years many factories have opted to require eye protection as machinery has increased in speed and the rate of debris being flung out into the work area has increased at the same time. The vast majority of all eye injuries occur as the result of flying debris, it can be metal shavings resulting from production on the line, rocks and dirt from a lawn mower or a wayward tool that is dropped by a fellow employee. The end result is the same, if you are not wearing some form of safety glasses; you are going to suffer an eye injury.
As flying debris is the most common cause of eye injury, you should be looking for safety glasses that feature either side shields or have wrap around lenses. You will find that there are a number of different styles of these glasses with both metal and plastic frames. While most employers prefer to offer those with plastic frames, if you are buying your own, you may find that those made with metal frames are more to your tastes.However, those with plastic frames are considered to be the safest at the frames resist bending if struck by a larger flying object and are approved for use in a variety of environments including areas where electric shock are a possibility. These safety glasses are also available with clear or tinted lenses to meet personal tastes and help in bright working conditions such as outside in the bright sun. If you or your employees need reading glasses, you can even purchase safety glasses with built in magnification to ensure that no one has to swap their glasses to read their paperwork and put their eyes at risk.
